i have the same issue, and yes, skype uses GTK-settings or Desktop settings to merge the gtk theme into skypes ui.

How many test rounds do you set it on on gtkperf?
mine's set to standard 100 rounds and i get 24.75 average on intel GM965 card

actually i have to agree with this, you can release it but put a donate button in the page, so of the users like it, they can donate, and if you see donations, you can see that the audience like your styles/themes, and then get motivated to do more...?? or am i wrong there?

serious, if you would take a look at what he is writing the engine is crux=gtk2-engines-crux wich usually is build in the gtk2-engines so you dont have to install any gtk2-engines to get it to work.
